![]() ![]() While Druids are on the lower end of representation in BG2, it clearly encourages the player to make their main character a druid or picking up Jaheira simply due to being a better class combo and not being mired in the swamp of lackluster that is the Shapeshifter kit.Ĭharacter stats are fairly important in the sense that some come out much more powerful than others.Įven when not comparing classes or abilities, raw ability score will mean a character that can do more with any weapons, take less hits or not die for said hits.įor some caster, there are restrictions applied to their main casting stat and so anything at 18 or close to 18 is best. there is very little left to support him. When we look at it as a Fighter/Druid against a Shapeshifter. Up until, now, Cernd looked bad against Jaheira when comparing a Druid against a Fighter/Druid. There are many mods that increase the power of Greater Werewolf, but this will focus on the vanilla EE experience. While the Greater Werewolf transformation is decent defensively, the lack of spellcasting and being restricted to paws which are considered +2 piercing weapons (unable to damage any dangerous enemy and overall incapable of damaging about a third of all enemies due to common piercing resistance) makes it a survival tool and not a great one at that. The ability to turn into a Werewolf and Greater Werewolf is punitive: the bonus from the transformation is much lower than the real (foe) Werewolves and Greater Werewolves, any gains from the transformation are quickly rendered obsolete/useless and shapeshifting in any form disables spellcasting. ![]() There have been many discussions about the Shapeshifter class kit, but the reality ends up being this: even in the latest version of BG2EE where there are no bugs, it does not work as expected. So having half the HP (again, only class hit dice) and less than half the damage resistance, Cernd is also incredibly easy to hit due to not being able to wear armor. The class kit makes it impossible to wear armor of any kind. I wish it would stop here, but it gets worst.Ĭernd uses a class kit called Shapeshifter. With more than double Cernd's potential HP simply from her classes (not accounting Constitution at this point), Jaheira is also capable or reducing her damage intake by an extra 40% over him. This spell stacks additively with the Fighter HLA Hardiness which increases damage resistance by 40%. The level 1 druid spell "Armor of Faith" increases damage resistance by 25%. Her fighter HLA are also very good because of the Fighter/Druid synergy. Opposite of that, Jaheira has enough with 7 to buy everything essential and even some fluff in the Druid HLA. Removing Cernd's unusable HLA points, the countdown is 11 Cernd VS 13 Jaheira.Ĭonsidering that not all 11 Druid HLA are good, about half of those will be of low utility. Jaheira receives 7 HLA from Druid and 6 HLA from Fighter. Access to Fighter High Level Abilities (HLA)Ĭernd receives 17 points to spend on HLA but can only buy a maximum of 11 in the Druid class. Jaheira meanwhile gains the following from her 25 Fighter levels: ![]() One spell slot for spell level 5, 6 and 7 10% resistance to fire/cold/electricity Jaheira ends up, at max xp, being a level 25 Fighter and lvl 21 Druid.Ĭernd caps Druid at level 31 whom after level 24 gains almost nothing.Ĭernd gains the following from his extra 10 Druid levels: With the high level cap of Baldur's Gate 2, pure class characters often end up weaker due to high levels in one class yielding very minute bonuses at level up.įrom a power perspective, Jaheira has a much better class choice dualing into Fighter than Cernd. If we look at the competitors, we have Jaheira who is multi-classed and Cernd who is pure. What the above drills down to is that with only two druids, it will usually be a choice of one or the other. There is usually very few reasons to have more than one druid in a party unless the player wants to make one and have a second one using a companion.Ī three druid team would be due to a player fetish of some sort. This means that Cernd, as a druid, has a lot of value as there aren't that many replacements.
